about the villa

The villa is in the architectural heart of the medieval village of Benano, which is built into a rocky hilltop that is virtually the intersection of Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio. As comfortable as the villa is, you will still want to go out and explore, whatever time of year you happen to visit.

Why rent a villa in Umbria?

Come enjoy something special in our corner of Italy – the wine, olive oil, festivals and food of the region will make you want to return again and again.

In addition to the region's bucolic scenery and incredible food and wine, people love the villa for its central location – close to so many of the sights and attractions of Tuscany and Umbria, and within easy reach of Rome.

What’s nearby in Umbria and Lazio?

Benano boasts extraordinary views of the nearby village of Viceno and the Orvieto cathedral, which sparkles like a jewel in the distance when the sun hits it just right. About eight minutes away you will fall in love with the village of Torre Alfina and its impressive neo-gothic castle, charming cobblestone streets, two fine restaurants and, many agree, the region’s best gelato!

Benano borders the Monte Rufeno Nature Reserve, a vast expanse of beautiful forests and nature trails for walking and horseback riding. And just a few miles away is the splendid vacation area of Lago di Bolsena, Europe's largest volcanic lake with fishing, sailing, swimming, and sunbathing.

Less than a half-hour’s drive from Benano will bring you to the popular Umbrian hilltowns of Orvieto and Cività di Bagnoregio.

What’s nearby in Tuscany?

Only a half-hour’s drive in the other direction will bring you to four gems of southern Tuscany: Pitigliano, Sorano, Sovana, and the spa town of San Casciano dei Bagni.

Easy day trips

Most of our visitors explore the regions of Umbria, Tuscany, and Lazio. Within a radius of 110 miles (175 kilometers) of the villa, you will be able to reach major Italian tourist destinations such as Florence, Rome, Siena, and Assisi. Rome is just an hour’s train ride from nearby Orvieto station; with frequent trains to and from, it’s an easy day trip. Florence, Siena, and Assisi are all about two hours from the same station or by car.

Equally convenient to Benano are the many acclaimed towns that have attracted travelers to Umbria and Tuscany for centuries – Umbria’s ceramic towns, Gubbio and Deruta; Tuscany’s wine meccas, Montalcino and Montepulciano; Italy’s chocolate capital, Perugia; Pienza, home to Tuscany’s finest cheese; Norcia, a must for lovers of Italian meats and sausages; and the renowned thermal springs and spas of Chianciano, San Filippo, and Saturnia.
